Tara Powers (E-RYT 200, E-RYT 500) is a storyteller. She teaches with the foundation of over two decades of practice, over a decade of teaching and eight years of teacher training facilitation, program writing and development. She is influenced by teachers such as John Friend, Ana Forrest, Kathryn Budig, Elena Brower, Sianna Sherman, David Regelin, and Yogi Bhajan. This wide range of teacher inspiration creates a unique foundation to draw from, creating a cohesive but expansive style all her own. Classes with Tara are a strong mix of technical practice, intentional movement, deep education and sheer comedy. This phase of her teaching is centered on relationships and how yogic arts are a tool kit for optimization. Through her own experiences and deep witnessing, Tara offers teaching and dialogue focused on the true meaning of the word yoga and how, through community, we can employ these ancient principles to our very modern lives.
Tara is a single Mother to three beautifully wild children, and these souls inspire her every day to live her dreams boldly. In her free time she can be found walking her dog, reading, writing, travelling, spending quality time with friends, and planning her next big vision. She also enjoys a variety of fitness activities. Beyond that she enjoys cooking and all manner of delicious eats. Tara loves music and going to live shows, camping and hiking. The ocean is her home despite being landlocked for the last ten years – Tara, born and raised on Long Island, is a New Yorker eternally. Through the challenging work of vulnerability, Tara has made empowered decisions to live her truth and use the tools of yoga to re-write her life. After divorcing in 2016, she came face to face with her reality; live your truth or suffer your fate. Turns out truth is magical, liberating, and fulfilling beyond words.
As a master teacher, Tara is refining and releasing her years of professional study and practice through public and private classes, writing, online courses and live trainings. These next few years are the actualization of over two decades of dedicated study, passionate work, and self study. She has facilitated, lead and created 200 hour training programs over her seven year facilitation career with Lifetime Fitness, Go Yoga, House of Aum, Main Street Wellness, and NPTI; each time refining and curating material, sourcing the best of the best in information and technique. Tara has been awarded through her partnership with NPTI the first state license to train teachers in Ohio her program also is the only one eligible to accept GI Bill benefits to train veterans in Yoga. This accreditation is the starting point to pave the way for a new paradigm in the way yoga teachers are trained, the professionalism in the industry of yoga teaching, and creating licencing over certifications.
